To the HP writers on my f-list

I will do a full layout, be it journal, web-site, or matching journal/web-site, with matching icons, fo-banners, link buttons, user-info table set up... The works, if you give me the fic I desperately want.

"Why don't you write this fic yourself?" You may be heard to ask. I'll tell you why. My muse has left and I don't know the characters well enough to feel comfortable writing in the fandom.

Is this starting to sound tempting? Just wait until you hear the fic I want.

It's AU. I prefer it set in the 6th or 7th year. Now, what's so AU about it? James Potter survived the night that Voldypants killed Lily and tried to kill Harry. So, more than likely, Sirius wouldn't have gone to Azkaban. Also, Sirius didn't do in the MoM. He didn't succumb the evils of drapery.

Pairings? Hermione/Harry, Hermione/Sirius, Hermione/Remus, hell, maybe Hermione/James. Any of those, or any combination. It has to be at least a couple of chapters long. You are getting a full layout, here. Oh, and it has to be decent. I'm not asking for crack!fic. I'll be asking for that next time.

As for what the layout is, that's up to you. You can be as specific or as vague as you want in your layout request. However, if you're vague. I won't go changing it 50 times. If you're specific, I'm more likely to be willing to do that.

Have I tempted any of you? Feel free to spread this around and provide a link. This is going to be public.

I hope you get the fic you want!

Me too!

Gabrielle
Sounds like a great bunny! And for pairings? I vote for all four! *cough* *innocents*
That would be beyond fabulous. Now if I could just get someone to bite. Heck, it's a free layout, with all the trimmings!

Tonya
Hmm. I don't know anyone offhand who does AU but you might post it to [info]quills_inkstain as a member challenge and see if anyone bites. *Grin*
That particular bunny has been biting at me forever and a day.

I'll have to go ahead and join, first. I see templates for posting fic and art, but is there one for posting a member challenge?

Tonya
No, there isn't any set format for challenges there *Grin* Just post it and mark it as a Challenge. I'd love to read it!
Kewlness! I'm off to post the challenge then!

A fic, eh?

Re: A fic, eh?

o.O I can't delete that to make it more obvious that the whole rest of the text is a link, so you'll have to deal with the fact that I am the suck when it comes to html tags.

In case no one hovers their mouse over that: Doubt Thou the Stars

Re: A fic, eh?

I'm squeeing! I really have to find a way to get this layout to work the way I want it to. The comments don't stack right and there's no delet or screen button. Grrr.

I'm so eager to get to reading this!

Have you thought about what you wanted for your layout?

Tonya

Re: A fic, eh?

I'm so hoping you like it!!! The idea was really fantastic and I have heard (and see) that you're really good with the graphics ^^) And--your journal settings teach me to use preview! Which is a good thing!

I'm really enamoured of the whole 'marauder's map' thing right now--it's the layout of my fanfic archive The Pensieve, as well as my desktop picture--I just LOVE the marauders, especially Thewlis and Oldman's versions (as I am in love awfully fond of both actors, AND their portrayals)... I kind of like the idea of having it very obvious that it's a journal for mostly HP fandom AND writing, if that makes sense. Like inkblots and scribbles and parchment rips. (It doesn't have to match The Pensieve at all (it was a downloaded skin from the talented Lazuli for whom I have no link) though, just the general writing theme.)

My layout right now is by the adorably awesome [info]selene2 and I do still love it--but this was too good to pass up! My favorite colors are the earth tones (similar in shading to what is on my own journal); sage, tan, maroon, et.cetera.

Please don't feel as though you have to be as obsessive about the layout as I was about starting the story, either--it's in my personality to throw myself at things as if I'm some sort of horseshoe...unless of course the suggestions I made for the design inspire you :P I have a graphic here that explains sort of what I like about the map, though I don't NEED it to include Peter or James. They get enough loving in my stories. *BG*

Re: A fic, eh?

I too am crazy over awfully fond of both actors, so I can understand where you're coming from. While I only have a vague idea of what I'm going to do with this layout, it's coming to me.

What's your screen resolution and what browser do you use? I just want to make sure this layout works for you.

Re: A fic, eh?

*squees and spams your comment page...*

Right now I'm waiting to get my computer back from the shop (dvd drive go poofy), but I think it's 1280x854 just like the one I'm on. I alternate between Safari and Firefox.

Btw, I think I'm going to change my user designation to 'Mischief Managed' instead of 'Muggle With a Muse,' so if you want to work in 'I solemnly swear...' somewhere, that woudl be fantastic. (I may have to go crazy with links on the side unlike my own, as I've dug up a lot of links I really would want to share with folks...I also love how you have your tags along the side in this layout...) I'm only just recently getting into having a layout not look like utter crap so I am SO excited right now... !!

Re: A fic, eh?

My laptop's DVD drive is slightly off. We think it's not sitting right in the casing. Sometimes I have to try three or four times to get it to read a disc.

Are you wanting a three column layout? I'm thinking that maybe we could do quills for the list images in place of my sketched ducks. or maybe ink-blots. We'll see what works best. Now I need to collect images of the map, maybe some parchment paper images.

Oh, maybe one of those banner images for the sidebar headers!

Now, as soon as I come up with the images, I can imagine how the layout will look. I'm starting to get excited about this!

Tonya

Re: A fic, eh?

I like the 3 column; the only think I don't want is for it to be so thin that reading a story feels cramped in the space provided, if that makes sense.

LOVE the ink blots idea. LOVE. Quills will also work. Also, I simply adore the idea of images for not just the top, but all over the place, like yours (not like a big deal, just like your adorable duckies--if that isn't a lot of work...); where even if you've scrolled down a tad you still get a feel for the theme? /fangirls you like crazy.

Darsynia must not allow herself to tell you spoilers about the plot of this story, no matter how much she thinks it would be a splendiforous way to thank you for offering her this delicious plot bunny.

(Homer Simpson voice) Mmmm.... plot bunny. (/Homer Simpson Voice

Re: A fic, eh?

I know exactly what you mean. I usually stay away from 3 column layouts because of that. Also, most of the ones that were offered before, changed size with the screen. Do me a favor, go to Your story, you should see it in my ducky style {*snerk*}, and tell me if you think that that would be wide enough of an entry space for you.

I'm loving blots as well. Oh, maybe for the divider, instead of my duckies and a dashed line, we could have a quill and make it look like it's drawing a line, or something.

Plot Bunny: It's what's for dinner!

Re: A fic, eh?

Mmmm Indian for dinner! Your link, however, did not display in your ducky style :(

Quill drawing a dotted line sounds awesome! Oh, and my husband suggested (and I have no idea if this is possible) seeing if this site could be matched to the LJ (doesn't have to be done right away either, like a 'oh, you finished the story' reward or something...

I was brought up so friggin' catholic. You mentioned in your challenge that you'd make a matching webpage/layout and I'm still sitting here going 'I shouldn't ask!!' And even after typing that, I STILL think I shouldn't ask. Stupid guilt. bleh.

ps. OMG @ awesome plot bunnies for this story you have no idea!!! so excited. Just had to share!!

Re: A fic, eh?

Grrr, well, just take a look at some of my posts, and see if you think they're wide enough for the story to be read all right.

I understand the guilt, though I'm more than willing to try and code the site to look like the journal. I happen to have that e-fiction type ready to upload so I can play with it.

Oh, I can't wait to see!!!!

Tonya

Re: A fic, eh?

Definitely wide enough!

Ah, if you already have understanding of the site type then I won't stress TOO much.

I'm really liking the whole 'flashback then present time' idea of this fic, because otherwise people are going to be like 'ok, but what happened?' and I don't want anyone to have to look at the camera and go 'oh, by the way, THIS happened...' hehe

Re: A fic, eh?

It's definitely not too much stress. I've been meaning to switch my writing site over to this style, I just haven't had any real motivation.

I think you managed that flashback portion perfectly. It leaves a bit of mystery as to what's changed from canon and managed to reveal the changes without getting annoying. Yes, I plan to fangirl all over this story, I can't help myself.

Tonya

Re: A fic, eh?

I am completely okay with that, lol.
